The majority of the vineyard acreage in SLO Wine Country is Sustainability in Practice (SIP) certified, reflecting a progressive, respectful approach to the environment that is shared by local winegrowers as well as our surrounding communities.
The SIP program is administered by the Central Coast Vineyard Team, a network of 300 farmers that has been leading the way toward sustainable practices for 15 years. The SIP certification program reflects an approach that is broader and more involved than farming organically. In fact, it is one of the most stringent programs of its kind.
The SIP standards address interconnected elements of the “whole farm system,” including habitat conservation, energy efficiency, pest management, water conservation, economic stability and human resources. In SLO Wine Country, these standards are employed not only to protect the surrounding environment, but also to promote healthy vineyards and natural quality in the resulting wines.
